Classic Gray SF Day Turns Into Colorful Valentine's Love Fest on Slow Sanchez

Friends of Slow Sanchez (that's us) launched our first series of public events on Valentine’s Day. A grey, cold morning turned into hours of socially distanced warmth, fun, coloring, neighborly messages of love, and people showing support and appreciation for slow streets.

A volunteer's sister created this big-heart Insta backdrop with the hashtag #keepsanchezslow

To get the slow street the love going, we marked intersections with balloons (thank you One Stop Party Shop!) and beads (thank you top-secret donor). Volunteers answered questions and offered passersby a chance to sign the Slow Sanchez letter of support. (BTW, have you signed it yet, if not, you can here).

Many people got creative with our magic markers and wrote what they love about Slow Sanchez. We attached these to a construction site fence and people shared them on social media.

We handed out chalk to eager street artists including kids, pups, as well as State Senate Scott Weiner and District 8 Supe Rafael Mandelman. We couldn't have been more excited to have them stop by and have some fun with us.

We can’t wait for our next event to happen and get out there again, safely but joyously. See you there!
